We have a new finish to celebrate, and this time it’s bronze.
Lancaster Interior Design has been named a Bronze Winner for Best Interior Design Group in Sarasota Magazine’s Best of Sarasota 2026. For a studio whose story began in Sarasota in 1946, recognition from this community feels especially meaningful.
To everyone who nominated us, voted for us, recommended our team or welcomed us into your home: thank you. You have given us a very good reason to step away from the drawings for a moment and celebrate.
Then it’s back to the details. There is always another beautiful space taking shape.
A Community Recognition in a Milestone Year
Sarasota Magazine’s Best of Sarasota is a reader-voted celebration of local businesses, people and experiences. In its October 15 announcement, the magazine reported more than 700,000 votes across 264 categories in the 2026 competition.
That enthusiasm says something wonderful about Sarasota. People care about the businesses that help shape life here, and they show up for them.
Our Bronze recognition arrives as Lancaster Interior Design marks 80 years of history. Originally established as Humma-White Studio in 1946, our business has grown alongside a community with an enduring appreciation for architecture, art and personal expression.
Today, Principal Interior Designer Keffie Lancaster leads our team with that same appreciation for individuality, paired with a collaborative approach to planning and bringing a home together.
Sarasota Interior Design With Your Life at the Center
A home can be visually striking and wonderfully comfortable at the same time. We believe the most successful interiors begin with understanding the people who will use them.
How do you spend an ordinary morning? How many people gather when everyone comes to visit? What do you love about your current home, and what makes you quietly mutter every time you open a particular cabinet?
Those answers matter.
A kitchen designed for an enthusiastic cook may need a different storage plan from one designed around frequent catered gatherings. A seasonal residence may need flexible guest accommodations.
A living room built around a treasured art collection calls for careful conversations about scale, lighting and furniture placement.
Style grows from those conversations. Whether your preferences lean toward contemporary interiors, traditional detailing or an expressive mix, our job is to connect your taste with a home that supports your daily life.
The Planning Behind the Finished Room
The photographs usually get the attention. We understand. We love a fabulous finished room, too.
But much of the work happens before the furnishings arrive: reviewing layouts, studying proportions, coordinating selections and resolving how the pieces fit together.
One Comprehensive Schematic Design Book
Our Schematic Design Book is a central communication tool for clients and the project team. Developed and refined as the design progresses, it brings the project’s decisions into an organized, highly visual reference.
Depending on the scope, it may include:
- 2D space plans and furniture layouts
- 3D renderings to help clients visualize proposed spaces
- Cabinetry and millwork drawings
- Appliance and plumbing specifications
- Lighting and electrical coordination
- Tile and flooring layouts
- Countertop selections and details
- Door and hardware schedules
- Paint, wallcoverings and other finish selections
A rendering helps you imagine the room. The supporting drawings and specifications help communicate the decisions needed to execute it.
For example, a bathroom vanity connects to plumbing locations, mirror dimensions, lighting placement and surrounding tile. Considering those elements together gives the homeowner and trades a clearer picture of the intended result.
A Collaborative Process From Vision to Completion
Our process moves through four connected stages: Define the Vision, Develop the Concept, Finalize the Design and Deliver the Vision.
Each stage builds on decisions made with the client.
We collaborate with architects, builders, contractors and specialized trades, contributing the interior design direction and documentation appropriate to our role.
For homeowners, that means having a team that can explain recommendations, help compare options and keep the overall design in view as individual decisions move forward.
Interior Design Services for Building, Remodeling and Furnishing
Every project has a different starting point. Some clients arrive with architectural plans. Others have a home they love in a location they want to keep, along with a very long list of things they would like to change.
Our interior design services support a range of needs.
New Construction and Large-Scale Remodeling
Early design involvement creates opportunities to consider how a home will function before major decisions become difficult to revisit.
Furniture layouts can inform lighting and electrical placement. Cabinetry design can influence appliance selections. Planning window treatments early can help identify where concealed wiring or other preparation may be needed.
For new construction interior design, we work with the architectural and building team to connect these decisions. Remodeling calls for the same attention, with the added challenge of understanding the existing spaces and what the proposed changes require.
Full-Service Interiors and Furnishings
Furnishings bring another layer of personality and practical planning to a home. The right proportions, upholstery, rugs, lighting, artwork and accessories help rooms feel connected and comfortable.
A sofa should suit the room and the people sitting on it. A beautiful dining area should leave enough space to pull out a chair. Those everyday considerations belong in the design conversation from the beginning.
Cabinetry, Storage and Window Treatments
We also design cabinetry, closets and garage systems, with resources including Wood-Mode and options suited to different levels of customization.
Storage planning starts with what needs a home, whether that is cookware, clothing, beach supplies or the collection of things currently living on the laundry room counter.
Custom window treatments complete another essential part of the room, balancing light, privacy, views and the overall design.
A Portfolio With More Than One Point of View
Our interior design portfolio includes projects in Bird Key, Longboat Key, downtown Sarasota, Manasota Key, Anna Maria Island and Lakewood Ranch.
That range matters because each home brings a different architecture, setting and client perspective. Our work includes coastal residences, condominiums, expansive custom homes and commercial spaces.
The Italian-inspired Manasota Key home and the bold, modern Dolphin Tower condo illustrate how different those directions can be. The goal is to develop a design that belongs to the people and the property.
If you are choosing an interior designer, explore complete projects as well as individual photographs. Look at how rooms relate to one another and how consistently the details carry through the home.
Established in Sarasota, Designing Across Florida
Our showroom and studio are located at 117 N Tamiami Trail in Osprey, just south of Sarasota. Our work serves homeowners throughout Sarasota and Southwest Florida, including Longboat Key, Siesta Key, Casey Key, Venice, Lakewood Ranch and surrounding communities, with projects extending across Florida to West Palm Beach.
Designing here means paying attention to the way people enjoy their homes: indoor-outdoor gatherings, visiting family, waterfront views and spaces that may serve as either a primary residence or a seasonal retreat.
It also means asking practical questions about light, privacy, maintenance and how materials will be used. A covered terrace and an exposed outdoor kitchen have different demands. A finish selected for appearance still needs to suit its location.
Those conversations help turn inspiration into decisions that make sense for the home.
Thank You for Being Part of Our Story
This Best of Sarasota recognition belongs in a story that includes our clients, team, collaborators and the community that continues to support us.
We are grateful for every introduction, every recommendation and every opportunity to help someone feel more at home.
Eighty years into our Sarasota story, there is still plenty to imagine, draw, select and create. And yes, we are making room for a little bronze.
